Beauty Nails

Susana Reyes runs Beauty Nails, her nail salon located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Depicting nails and a nail salon on a large poster was an interesting challenge. For Beauty Nails, I chose to focus on the sisterhoods that stem from visiting salons, often accompanied by chismes, in other words, chit-chat. Susan told me how her business lends itself to building community in Elizabeth, particularly among Latinas. With this in mind, I changed my design to include two women gracefully engaging in the monthly ritual of getting their nails done.
